Suggestions - purchasing 08 Lancer

Hi everyone,

you know me from the meets with the clean supercharged integra. I have a 2nd car which is a 1.6EL. Long story short I HATE the el.. its under powered and has alot of annoying problems plus I feel like 80 years old driving it .

I have been looking at purchasing an 04 - 05 Acura TSX for a 2nd car as the Integra no longer drives in the winter time.
After test driving and coming close to buying a TSX I found there are alot of problems with the car and extremely over priced. I was also very unimpressed with the performance on the tiptronic especially.

I am looking for something a little more economically but decent enough that it suits me and I would like to modify somewhat.
So I am now considering an 08 Lancer GTS. I'd love the ralliart but can't afford it.

I just wanted anyone who has this vehicle's opinion, in terms of drivability, reliability and power.
I found only 3 recalls on the 2008 model which don't overly concern me. What would you guys reccomend?

But... its a decent car to get you from A-B with minimum troubles... (I should let the lancer guys talk )

Opinions:
Looks good, relatively spacious, handles so nice when lowered, can be made to look very much like an EvoX, but bit heavy, not the most fuel economic car out there (but by no means terrible), poor visibility (especially when parking), and not so good tranny, and as Zero said, we DO have quite a few Lancers in TTS, heh.
Also should you decide to do any asthetic mods, EvoX/RalliArt hood/trunk/doors will fit, however EvoX fenders/bumpers are not a direct replacment (EvoX = wider body)

Also ... your comment about your winter beater made me laugh b/c my brother drives a 1.6EL. hehehe

Drivability is decent, anywhere from 500 - 900 km on a tank of gas, depending on driving style and city vs hwy obviously, SNow tires are a must, especially if the car is equipped with the OEM Dunlop SP Sport 5000 M's (worst tire ever). Reliability is good, Ive only ever had one issue with mine (uh, well, that wasnt my fault of course) with a gasket blowing out on the exit side of the exhaust manifold, was covered under warranty. As for power... um, well... apparently it didnt come standard... I mean its got enough to get you in trouble, but so do most minivans...

Any specific questions, like the other guys said, you have quite the selection of owners at your disposal on here..

If you just want looks and don't care for power then go for it.

Hey guys! I had the opportunity to test drive a 09 2.4 L GTS yesterday, wow with padlle shifters and everything.. This car is fantastic compared to the EL. The el is so slow it has no power to go up hills .. and the gas mileage isnt very good due to age.

I am now heavily leaning on buying this car I am going to make an offer on it today, its just that its white I wasnt too keen on that colour but If I do some cosmetic work on it shouldnt be a problem.

Not looking for a very fast car as I already have the Integra for that.

Good buy for fuel economy and sexy ass looks, plus it rides on rails especially when lowered.

Hey guys! Im the proud owner of the white 09 GTS! I really excited I pick up the car on Tuesday.. My integra is in the shop for some minor issues but I'll have the lancer now to drive and be proud! I'll need some input Im a honda/acura girl and new to mitsubishi.. Im looking to modify the bumper to look like an ralliart and lower it soon... any suggestions is great

Talk with Evo_Killer or the other white ralliart.. they'll tell you what you can do with it..

Plastidip the middle and chrome trim, any of the Lancer guys can show you how to do that.

Mmmmm, I still love Lancers in white ... so clean and sexy. Still kinda wish I went white. Congrats on your new ride! Any chance you have random spare parts for the EL for sale/grabs?

congrats on the purchase , gald u got the 09 over the 08 , the 2.0 l is underpowered for the weight of the car , then again so is the 2.4 but atleast it has more balls then the 2.0

the car is a heavy beast , think somewhere between 3100-3300 lbs , injen cai/crank pulley/headers/headerback exhaust will make the car feel nice , no one has done a custom tune yet , maybe u cn be the first to try it ,

if u want the front end to look like the ra very simple , pick up some black vinyl and vinyl the grill and nosepiece ,u said u did the clear protection yourself on the teg so id assume it would be easy for u to do the grill and nose on the lancer

nextmod also sells a front and rear lip combo for the car 350 for both , that will make it look more aggressive .

lower it or put some coils in and you will be surprised how it takes turns , if you want just springs the eibach sportlines are the best , if you want coils i believe the word around here is the .....fuck i forget the brand

i have had my gts for 4 yrs now , i track it i beat on it and have never ever had one issue at all , they are well built , but too heavy and the tranny sucks

Yup.. already bought some mods for it! New insert and lip coming soon! I cant wait

As for the its sold.. but I have some 16" rims for sale and OEM tinted headlights.. I'll post it soon!

+1 ... get those right away. Any water on the tires instantly get shot all along the side of your car, forming an arc from front wheel well to above the rear wheel well. Such a pain after cleaning your car, driving home, looking at your nice shiny car and going 'wtf!' ...

Zero: thanks I already bought parts for the lancer and Ive been sketching pics of how I want mine to look.. I think I made a good choice with the white.. Its not normally my style but with what I want I think it'll look fantastic..

To be honest I wish it didnt come with 18s.. Id like to rock 17s and slam it.. I never liked too big wheels.. but I'll have to work with it

17"s for the win...

I went with 18's once... hate it, I want more rubber =P

I want 19"s ... , or 20"s just for shows. hehe
