Brake Caliper Upgrade
Just wondering if anyone knows much on what's required and how much it would cost to upgrade brakes to something w/ a caliper shield. I was looking into painting my calipers, but after seeing how worn my buddy's painted calipers looked, I started looking into getting pre-painted caliper shields (hold your negative comments for just a sec!). My thoughts were it will look cleaner and will actually help reduce the amount of brake dust on the inside of my rims. Upon further research, I'm finding there are either cheap glue-on covers, or overpriced screw-on covers (MGP makes some easily installed/removed covers, but they're $200/set). I don't want one of those sets that says 'Brembo' on it because ... well .. I'm not trying to pretend they're something their not.
So options really are (if I go the caliper cover way) ... I can put some cheap caliper covers on, or see how much it would actually cost for a budget bigger brake kit that has covers.
Now before you say 'just paint them' ... I'm not against that at all, in-fact I'll probably paint them regardless if I get covers or not. I just like the thought of how clean it will look w/ a cover, and would be nice to have less brake dust on my rims.
Also not really concerned w/ the heat ... they seem to vent heat fine and should hold up with a good high-heat adhesive, although I'd prefer some sort of screw-on which doesn't require drilling b/c I don't want them popping off while I'm driving and it's just silly to drill into a perfectly good set of brake calipers unnecessarily.
Frembo's (or whatever you want to call them, ):

Frembos!
i'd just be worried about them scratching the rims or falling off....
imagine driving, having the cover come off - become wedged between the brakes and rims O_O

That's one of the reasons why I like the MGP covers, they seem pretty secure ... also one of the reasons why I'm looking at a brake upgrade ... but don't want to drop too much $$ ... I've got an incredibly small budget!

Re: Brake Caliper Upgrade
So I have a can of this for my retrofit project ... should be good.
VHT Caliper Paint (rated to 900F vs I think like 450-500F for the dupli color caliper paint kit, but the dupli color says 'with ceramic' ... so i dunno what's better)
Just wondering, what do I do to prep the brakes? Brake cleaner and a wire brush ... spray/scrub/sand/rinse/dry? Also wondering to anyone who's painted their calipers, how long did it take you to do? I might be doing this at my parent's place which is a good 30mins away, so need to plan my time accordingly as I don't think security will take likely to me painting in the underground.
I plan on spraying the paint into a small container and then brushing it on. Hope they turn out as nice as ratskat's or Erin's!
Lastly ... where did Preston/Erin 's post for painting Erin's calipers go? I searched for it but couldn't find it.
