So i got a ticket...

cause my exhaust is too loud????? LOL WTF

i have a tanabe exhaust which is known to have a deep sound, not loud. and i was cruising under 3000 rpm... like really?? cop says if i change my exhaust to a stock 1 he will drop the ticket in court. LOL

any suggestions? because im clearly not changing my exhaust. ive had it for over 3 years on the car and NEVER EVER had a problem.

I got a ticket for an improper muffler last summer with my civic. I was told the same thing. I was under 3000 aswell going less than 60kph. Ive had my exhauset like that for over 5 years before that. Neaver a problem. I even had my silencer in at the time. Man she would have been really mad if it wasnt. First thing the lady said to me was why would you modify this car. Really? Then proceded to tell me how much she hates civic's. She even threatened to have her supervisor come out and tear apart my car. I told her that was fine by me. I'm not going to argue with a cop. And I wanted that because this lady was being a prick. I was hoping the supervisor would be more reasonable. That and there was nothing wrong with my car. And I can put my car back together.

So I didnt belive her when she said she would drop it. I'm in my 30's with my wife in the car. I'm not some snot nose punk cruzin around just to piss her off.

It was a $40 ticket with no points and nothing to go on my record. So I just paid it and did nothing to my car. My advice to you is if its not going on your permanent record then pay the fine. Chalk it up asshole cop. Goes along with having a modified car.

My 1971 VW beetle was far worse. Its in the garage being restored now but the one summer I drove it. I cant tell you how many times I was pulled over. Never given a ticket. But at least once a week all summer. I'm not sure if they just wanted to get a closer look or what. It was comical at first, then it started to get annoying.

There's no points attached. It's for improper muffler. But ima fight it there's so many reasons why this is rediculous. 1. He pulled me over 1 min after I had started my car ( which was parked outside all day) = cold motor means louder car then usual. Secondly I've never had a problem before. Thirdly the hta stAtes that the muffler must be In working condition, reduces pollution, has no cut outs, straight pipes etc which I don't have. My exhaust is 100$ legal. Just because his opinion ( he told me himself he's not a car enthusiast) was that it's loud, that makes it the law apparently

if he spelt your name wrong then is isnt you "it could get dropped"
i get exaust tickets all the time & not one went thru & there always $110. for the ticket. + im hearing that coppers are cracking down hard on modded cars.giving tickets for somthing as little as a air filter change. they are saying its ileagle mods cause the car didnt come from factory like that. :( my friend got the outher week 18tickets .one for everything he had changed under his hood. man this is getting rough being able to just drive a nice ride cant the coppers put there hard work somwhere else (like to people doing a crime & not to somone just driving down the road)

they need a warrant to check under the hood btw. unless u let them

ya fight them .if cop dont show up it dropped .anything wrong on ticket get dropped to "name/address/lic #/plate #" see i just had to show a pic of my exaust with a silencer in it to the courts to show the judge what it looks like & they mostly get dropped. or if you dont want to do it your self xcopper could help you with them. but always fight your tickets. better then ins n shit going up or points taken off you no what i mean & at least you tryed if they dont get dropped.

& if your on the side of road pulled over i wouldnt really want to get on the cop bad side saying "go get a warrent b4 you can look under my hood" im guessing they would just tow it then look some more with all they do like look under car for a cat/ checking your exaust/making you turn wheel all the way right then left seeing ig they hit anything/putting there fingers between your tire& fender for hight and so on.

yea i know . i told the cop straight up i wasnt changing my exhaust. i told him why wuld i pay 500-600$ for an oem exhaust when i can get a cop like u every 4 years that thinks my exhaust is too loud and only pay 110 if it goes through. n then i drove away

i prolly shuldnt of done that since everything is recorded. but oh well i was mad.

dont u have any pics of the ur car with the oem exhaust? maybe u can take that to court and say u got it changed? lool

i got one too for the 86, $110... don't even have the car anymore and my court date is in a month or so =/

False. All they need is reasonable grounds to believe there is something illegal. A modified exhaust is reasonable grounds enough to believe that the engine/ rest of the car is modified...just FYI... Just like they dont need a warrant to search the interior or trunk of the car, provided they have reasonable grounds to suspect there's something illegal happening, about to happen, or just happened. If they see a bong on your back seat they can search the vehicle and EVERYONE inside it. If they see a little empty weed bag they can search the vehicle and EVERYONE inside it. Yea I know. But they can't just randomly ask to see under the hood. They need a reason. Regardless the average dB of a car in traffic is 85dB. I tested my exhaust and it averages around 85. It peaked at 92 here n there. A motorcycle average dB is 100. So therefore my exhaust is nOT too loud

Who told you it's all recorded.? I'm 99% certain they cannot record the coversation without your consent. I think you're safe on that front. It's impractical for every cop to carry voice recorders on them at all times.

Randomly, no. But if they have reasonable grounds to do so they can and will. They can't pulls you over for speeding and say open your hood, BUT they can pull you over for an illegal modification and ask you to.
