Gear slipping?
So, I just got back from a bit of a road trip up north. Long story short, driver (not I) was downshifting to third to pass some cars/trucks and kept missing and grinded my first gear pretty bad. Now the car won't stay in first. Upon even mild acceleration from a stop, it pops out. Have to start in 2nd. :(
I'm going to bring the car to the shop, just thought I'd check here to see if anyone knows what it might be or how much it could potentially cost to fix.
I'm thinking the gear is worn down as it stays in the other gears just fine. Someone mentioned something about a synchro but I'm not too familiar with the workings of transmissions.
It's a manual 5sp. Thanks fam!

No expert on transmissions, but from what I just googled quickly sounds like the syncronizer(s) are going, but defiantly take it to a shop asap =( dont want it to get worse

Re: Gear slipping?
sorry for the late response but almost certain it's a synchro. In a nutshell synchro are internal components next to gears that help match the speed of the gear for a smooth transition shift.

Re: Gear slipping?
Dealership said it's a defective shift fork and it'll likely be covered under warranty, thankfully, but apparently they require 6 parts for that, 2 of which are on back-order ... so my car has been sitting at the dealership now for 2 weeks, going on 3. Not sure what parts are associated with the shift fork or why getting a part for a current production model is taking so long. I miss my car pretty bad right now.
I had initially thought it might be the synchro as well.

Mitsubishi part number# 2578A033 cost-$36.68 =1st gear shift fork
I hope that is all and the transmission is ok still. I hate trans problems such a pain in the butt
