squeaky springs

Post by Infamous on Mon May 03, 2010 6:51 pm

title says it all , front is fine but the rears squeak alot when getting in/out of the car

what does the future hold for my suspension? is it the springs? or struts that are squeaking? either way does this mean they are nearing the end?

I don't think so, mine used to make a lil noise and i've read of a few poeple with various springs hearing noises as well. And your fronts will go first, I have yet to see someones rear shocks go first on a lancer w/springs.

so guys, mine isn't making squeaky noises...
but everytime i turn the wheel (full turn), i hear a knock or popping sound..is that normal?!? and how come the height are not the same between all tires?!? like the front driver side is 1.5 fingers but the passenger's is 2 fingers..same with the back..

do i just wait until it settles?!? I've only had it for 4 days..i just dont know if this was normal..

used to have the same problem with mine. re-installed them and made sure the rubber covering were on the springs. they come with them. some ppl take them out when installing them. never made that spring streching sound ever again. the back did squeek when i got in and out of the car. thats normal.

oh..i see...thanks G!

kay already called my mechanic bout this..
I'mma tell him bout the rubber covering - I asked him if he used everything that came in the box - he said yes...so he'll check if the rubber covers slipped out..

what about the uneven height on both sides?!? is it coz the springs haven't settled yet?!?

Since you've had them for awhile, it's very likely that the rubber covering has shifted or torn. I would check to make sure that it is still intact. It is always wise to inspect the entire assembly when you notice a change like that. The springs themselves likely have lots of life left Smile

oh no =S
I hope it's not torn....just had the new springs installed last Thurs anyway..and as G said the new springs came with its own rubber cover anyway..that'd suck if it's torn already after 4 days...

**fingers crossed**

nah they will be fine. they don't rip in 4 days Razz

he might have installed them, but not correctly. make sure they are right till the end of the last coil of the spring. sometimes the slide em inward for some odd reason.

so I took it back to the shop after work - listened where the noise was coming from, removed the driver's side and checked it if the coil was sitting properly - turns out the drop gave too much pressure to the bearing on the top of the assembly..he cleaned it and added lube to reduce friction and knocking was gone..not totally tho..i mean when i'm turning the wheel while foot on the brake, i can still feel the vibration and super mild knocks - which i can hear from when i had my stock springs on..

the big question now is how long will it hold up..

just blast yuor music so you won't hear it!

on a serious note though, if the problem persists why not jsut fuck the springs and return to stock? personally i could not drive around knowing something isnt right. take em off, sell em and maybe wait for a set of coilovers?

he also went from stock to low,to stock for winter to low after winter , stock struts are not made to to go stock ,drop, stock, drop so in my oninion that had alot to do with his struts blowing , aswell as the driving conditions in his area

i been lowered for 2 yrs now and never went back to stock for winter and my ride is fine , no issues at all , and trust me i have driven on some real shitty roads on a daily basis

are you sure they are sitting proper? the springs have to go in a specific location or you will get weird noises and clicking

I was just gonna say....if your springs aren't mounted correctly, they're noisy as hell. I had my car up on jack stands to put the body kit on. When we dropped it back down, it came down on the springs funny, and the noise was just crazy until they re-settled. Another possible problem would be your strut mounts.

yeah..he did check it again last Monday when I brought it back..and it was sitting properly and the noise was only coming from one side he said..

and it's kinda weird to how the wheel gaps are not the same...

with your gaps , are you on forsure level ground? cuz variations in your driveway/road/parking spot will do that because your suspension will adjust to what the ground is like at each tire ,

yeah..kinda got this part sorted out now..coz everytime I get out of the car, I notice that yeah it depends on the ground..
but i'll still observe how it'll be...

so now, the only issue left is the popping noise when I turn the wheels - which is funny coz all lancer forums I looked into, said it's normal.

I hear the popping sound even when I'm driving but really really mild and sometimes it doesn't make the noise..

but when car is still and turning (kinda like when getting in and out of a parking spot), that's when i really hear it - even if ur standing beside the car, you'll hear it but not as loud as when you're inside the car..

well one you shouldnt turn your wheels while your standing still , so that could be a reason why you hear popping , did it start when the springs were installed? see it could also be your shocks , they are different then the gts shocks so they might not handle lowering as good as the gts

how much of a drop did you do
