MUDFLAPS FOR CHEAP

ITS ALMOST WINTER TIME!!!!
Where our cars that we chose to drive will all be covered in dirt, salt and nasty things on our roads. My volvo doesnt have any mudflaps so i thought about making my own.
YES I AM A CHEAP BOY so i'll be attempting to make mudflaps for cheap.

If any of you have any ideas on how and want to share ideas and what nots please do

I say why not, if they're cheap. Just do a good job on trimming them and mounting them, and if you want to paint them, I still have plenty of pink left over from my rims!

If you wanted to be sneaky couldnt you just trace someone's say RA ones and then just cut them out to be the same specs. Only difference would be the colour/material... Just a thought cause I love how my RA look =D

^ i thought of that, but that involves someone taking their flaps off. its okay i'll find a template or something online. prob mock something up by friday. no school bum around time =D

so got around to making the first template for the front mud flaps. have a look

I might go to IKEA to pick up the cutting boards. Ive seen them in person and they are quite bendy. Compared to the truck flaps i saw that i was going to cut, i believe my template is too big to make 4 out of the two. it'll become quite pricey at the end of the day. decision decisions. shall test theories tomorrow night. then Friday is construction time.

EDIT #2~

time to finish up the DIY.
so after a full day of shopping for products then cutting up, painting and sticking stickers, my DIY MUDFLAPS are finally completed. Total hours of work = 5 hours +/- a few for painting and drying.

I didn't end up using IKEA cutting boards or the truck flaps that i originally wanted. What i did use was a Non-glaze Plaskolite that i picked up from HOMEDEPOT. total cost was 20 something for the sheets. They range from all sizes but i got the ones that were just right for my build so basically $5 per flap. here is what i used



so after that i thought of having white mudflaps because i didn't want to be like everyone else using black. So i headed up to NEXTMOD for a can of white plastidip and some Rally armor stickers (THANKS PETER). this is the end result of that





I did my first coat and i realized i sprayed it on the wrong side. There is a non-glaze side and a shiny side, so i ended up having to redo 3 our of 4, meaning peeling off the plastidip...ended up getting a blister. i will spare you all by not uploading a picture of my finger. But in the process i did manage to screw up one of the flaps by trying to be lazy peeling off the plastidip. End result, HUGE SCUFF and ugliness. it'll have to stay o well. Lesson learn don't rush....i went for a test run afterwards and it actually scraped coming out of my driveway BUT no damage! Im hoping it'll hold up for the winter and be effective. i did a speed check and brought the car to 100 km/h and YES IT HOLDS!!! =D





So what of all this, with time and will anything can be achieved. While doing this I've picked up on a few things. Never rush. Always do the best you can. Double Check then Triple Check. As you can see from my picture my flaps aren't exactly perpendicular. That's because of my holes that i drilled... but regardless Im very happy with the build and will would do it again. i hope you all enjoyed! I had fun during this build!

ps - final cost of the whole build around $25-50, depending on how fancy you want it to be.
