My Small Port AE86
Hello all, I am new here. This is my little girl and what I have done to her so far with a few pics. To all, I love any comments, tips, or ideas you have, she is a work in progress, so nothing is set in stone!
So I got the car back in March, I had a Small Port AE92 corolla, and the AE86 I found have a blown engine, so I swapped the FWD engine in (its a bit faster, but still over 20 years old and tired, so it needs TLC and me to stop beating on it!)
Out with the old...
And out with the new?
All ready to go in! Lots of converting had to be done to heater lines and things like that to go from the FWD to the RWD configuration. (That is my 1967 Firebird in the back, she is also a money grubbing... *insert choice words here*)
This is in, but the T3 way...
I will skip a bunch of steps... But after wires, test driving, finding out the T3 adaptor plate for this engine swap sucks, and getting a custom made intake to fit my car made for the FWD intake, then getting it all done and properly working, and after traddig out the SR5 welded rear end for a proper GT-S open dif (it is a GT-S, no clue why someone changed it, it was sooooo slow...), this is how everything looked!
This is not the proper way to instal an LSD...
I have a 2-way TRD LSD for it, some fender braces, and a set of prothane bushings for the front (the back is in). I am going to be stitch welding it soon as well in the back. I am picking up some reenforced LCA's, I need to find some coilovers (any ideas on something good? I was thinking Megan), and a bunch of new steering and suspension stuff because the original stuff from 1986 is getting pretty warn...
Any tips or comments are welcome!

Re: My Small Port AE86
The more Levins I see, the more I like them! There are a few people I have met through DK that have that same kind of set up! I will be happy if I ever get a 20v in it! But I would really like a Beams 3SGE and a 6 speed from an Altezza, but thats a lot of converting, I would need to rob a bank first! I will stick with my little small port until it finally craps the bed on me! At the rate she is going, it should be soon!

Re: My Small Port AE86
Its where the 115 meets the 401, 15-20min East of Oshawa. And actually, I am only using one of them, I don't like it on the driver's side, and aside from that, I have a brand new set that are still in the package that I am not using that I may be able to part with. My Grandmother got me two sets, one for the back and one for the front of my Firebird, but they didn't really match, and they are all fronts anyways! Bless her for trying though!

Re: My Small Port AE86
I do plan on coming to meets, just can't make the first one. I may be passing through your area soon to pick up some parts, so something like that can be set up maybe, depending on when I find them, but I know I have another set somewhere... And I have no clue at all really, what would you pay/trade for the? I guess you don't have any cool Toyota stuff do you?
As for the Firebird, I have had it since I was 15, I have done a full frame off, drove it once, and have recently just pulled the engine again because its leaking oil. I have big plans for her too and she has been turned into a creation that I have pictured in my mind forever, basically what I am saying is that I can never part with her. Besides, the 455 I have for her will one day need a good home!

Many have tried! Besides, if I got rid of my Pontiac, I think my Dad would disown me, he like me having the little sister to his 67 GTO! :p

Re: My Small Port AE86
There is only one place I know of where AE86's go for sale often, but I am not sure I can plug other forums here, so I will just be quiet until told otherwise. People tend to keep their 86's, no matter what, and then have stock piles of them. I am new to the 86 world compared to some, but most others around here who have them, have 3-4 of them for parts, extra shells, and multiple projects... I actually want more of them myself, maybe a coupe just to be different then the hatch!

In the future you should swap a 2JZGTE into your 86. It will be BEAST!!

Re: My Small Port AE86
I have thought of that swap, make stupid amounts of power in a 2000lbs car, shred all tires and eventually kill myself... I think that is actually an amazing idea, and of I get money, I may have to do it! There are some really nice ones out there so I know if can be done!

Re: My Small Port AE86
Oh, and if other forums are ok, Dori-Kaze is an old school Toyota based group, but most people can look without signing up. If an AE86 is going to be for sale, it will pass through there! Most of the AE86 stuff on kijiji across Canada is on there first or for sale from a member. Super nice group of guys, but there are only a handfull here in Ontario.

Re: My Small Port AE86
So I made some progress today, and also got my first ever welding tan! I stitched up the bracing over the rear springs and what not, and it looked shizzztastic!!! So I went and got some roll cage and chaise paint and made it look semi decent. Its getting close to that track time of year, so I need to start making some major progress, the LCA's, front prothane bushings, and hopefully soon, some coilovers will all go in soon, the LSD will need to be done, and if I can afford it after all that, the clutch needs to be dealt with. Here are some pics of the mess I made...
