Re: Juice's HID Retrofit Project
Zero had the film directly on his fog light lens, which were like an inch from the bulb. My lens is a bit further away, and the larger housing I think helps spread the heat out.
It's holding up fine ... I think it's just the distance f/ the bulb that's keeping it from burning. I think I'm gonna post some update pics of where I'm at on the actual retrofit project ... when I get home.
Sick sig btw Koi!

Re: Juice's HID Retrofit Project
You seem to be having an electrical issue vs a problem w/ the bulbs ... unless you keep touching the bulb when you change them ... DONT TOUCH THE BULB KOI!

Re: Juice's HID Retrofit Project
i think i found out the problem. my driveway is a slope...
it always happens after a huge rainstorm or whatever.
i believe that the water is running down thru the car
to the connections resulting in a water build up soo
there goes my bulb after. i repositioned the connetor
so it faces another direction (pointing down) hopefully,
water wont be trapped into it and mess up my final set.
=( so sad! but then maybe HIDs after the last set is gone =O
but i'll need to wait another year for the warranty so if
more water leaks into the housing i can change for another.
i went thru 2 - 3 already. toyota guys know i hate them HAHA

Re: Juice's HID Retrofit Project
boo :( Sounds like that's probably the cause ... maybe also park the other way on your driveway? Also might want to put some electrical tape on the connector, or at least on the HID connectors when you get it.

Re: Juice's HID Retrofit Project
Nope, car is parked all day long ... unless my roommate took my car, which if he did, he's a retard b/c he has an Evo and it's rainy and wet.
AWD > FWD ...
I'll snap some pics soon ... right now it's just:
1 headlight baked open
side piece painted flat black with lightly tinted city light lens
turn signal lens tinted
projector shield painted (front and back) with flattened RV cutoff shield
trimmed piece of lexan (still dremelling out the middle section)
chrome ring from travel mug pulled off
remaining things to do:
main shroud needs to be trimmed down
secondary projector needs to be cleaned and shroud needs to be prepped (will house just an LED, possibly multi-colour w/ a switch ... similar idea to Kiru's, but w/ a mood switch, )
springs trimmed and put into projector
all visible trims painted flat black
halo covers tinted and installed
solonoid highbeam relay wired in
custom LED bulb mount for secondary projector
then still gotta do the other side ... which I'm gonna do after one side is 100% because I don't remember which screws went where to hold the housing together!
also have a DRL bypass which will go on when I wire it up ... right now trying to figure out how to disable the feature which shuts off fog lights when high-beams are activated since I'll be running a bi-xenon setup.

Re: Juice's HID Retrofit Project
I have a second set planned already ... but that will have to wait.
Gonna do that one full proper now that I know more about retrofitting. Too late to change this one up.

... some say patience is a virtue ... i say patience is the result of an inhuman amount of procrastination and a short attention span coupled with call of duty zombies

Re: Juice's HID Retrofit Project
Small update. Just pics.
Trimmed piece of Lexan to help block excess light ... still needs to be trimmed down a bit, but should be good. Shroud needs to be trimmed (top and bottom), then painted along w/ the Lexan. (Lexan is a hard plastic, approx 250x stronger than glass, pretty easy to trim down and shape w/ a dremel).
Then in the high beam, gonna mount another projector with an LED ... similar to Kiru's headlights.
AE's going on ...
Passenger side mock-up:
With lens and eyelid:
Projector (no bulbs):
Painted shield:
Maybe I'll take some mock pics w/ AE's running another day. Going dual-colour AE's ... o.O
Now off to CT for caliper paint kit.
